Mysterium

Hey there,

I'm running a 2-week pop-up mystery school this autumn — it'll be something between a retreat, a social gathering, and an art happening. It'll involve practices in somatic spaciousness, fire rituals, art, and waking the gods. If you want to come, you can fill out this application after reading the details below.

Logistics

  • Location: Casa Tilo in Barcelona

  • Timing: September 25 - October 9

  • Size: 14 people will be the max

  • Cost: $1250 (Financial aid available)

    • Payment: $450 now, to reserve your spot; the rest when you arrive (in cash if possible).

  • Food: We'll collectively cook food for the group, each of us taking shifts to help with meal prep. Let me know if you've got dietary restrictions, allergies, etc.

  • Prior: we'll want to do some field-building calls with people who are coming, just some calls to let everyone start to get familiar with each other, build a shared sense of the group, shared vocabulary around practice and navigating social stuff, etc.

TL;DR: We want to make a space where we can get playful and earnest about engaging with Life and Mystery together, in ways that bring in more Presence, attention, connection, and inner resources than we'd normally have access to day-to-day — and we feel like you've got a lot to bring to that table in that endeavor.

What We're Doing

The idea is to create a minimum viable structure where we can gather the right co-creative folks and get playful with the Mystery. This will probably look like a simple shared morning practice, a more creative shared evening practice, and leaving room in the middle for a shifting schedule of things like art, music, relational practice, solo time, time to break off in pairs/groups and wander around, paired practices, etc.

If I was running it today, the theme would be "Waking the Gods," — as in, feeling what styles of divinity or mystery are present in the group that aren't present in the world (but that the world would benefit from), and practicing bringing those qualities more and more to life.

Practices are likely to include things like:

  • Embodied open awareness practice

  • Shared imaginal practice

  • An opening and closing ritual where we all make something together at the beginning, then take it apart at the end. In between, it acts as a center to hold the group's energy alongside the divine energy.

  • You find a tree to befriend and meditate with for the duration

  • Some yagnas (feeding a fire with pieces of your old self to fuel energy for en emerging self)

  • A creative practice of your choosing, whether poems or drawing or music, whatever — but a pretty regular stream of creative flow, without getting too in your head about it needing to be good or perfect

  • Something loosely akin to circling, though I'm not the biggest fan of circling per se. But some kind of group container with a set of norms around open, genuine expression. Probably more adapted from VIEW than anything else.

  • And of course expect some impromptu magic/ritual stuff. Stones, spaces, trees, and water all tend to speak to me and tell me stuff that would be good to do with them, and I'd love to open that up to the group, to share the practice of ritual as both an art form and a transformative practice.

Think of this as a ritual space for collectively deepening into the Mystery. We want to approach with both a deep sense of play and a deep sense of earnestness — which involves shared practice and intentions around opening up our awareness, our perceptions, our creativity, our agency, and our sense of the sacred. It also involves unstructured vibing time with cool people who are capable of holding all that shared stuff together.

Want to Come?

If you want to participate and contribute to this sense of play, earnestness, Mystery, opening, and sacredness, fill out this application.

We want to make something with you, rather than for you — to co-create something together, as a group. I'd really like to see what happens when I lay out a bit of a structure and theme and some directions to play in and then let all of us loose to see what comes out of it. What our combined intuitions and inspirations come up with that mine alone wouldn't have.
